Can strategy games really work on touchscreens?
Strategy on a phone used to mean squinting at tiny units and misclicking every third move. Things have improved a lot, and Tidewatch Command is a good example of design that respects touch.
The trick is turn-based or pause-heavy pacing. When you're not fighting real-time chaos, a phone is actually a fine place to plan. You can zoom, tap deliberately, and think.
Interface clarity matters more than raw depth. A strategy game that hides its numbers behind cramped menus loses me fast, no matter how good the underlying systems are.
If you've written off mobile strategy, give a slower, offline title a try. The genre suits quiet evenings and commutes surprisingly well.
